Does What it Claims
In reading a few chocolate loaf recipes this year on line, I noticed they said to use espresso powder, noting that a couple of teaspoons actually brings out the chocolate flavor in the recipe without making it taste like coffee. I figured what the heck! King Arthur is a brand that has been around for decades (best known for their flour), so I thought it would be a safe product to use and the price was reasonable enough that if I didn't like the result I would have no issue ash canning the remainder. I'm guessing it did it's job as the loaves I made this year as gifts got rave reviews! The old adage is wrong -- you CAN teach an old dog new tricks!

Best expresso powder
Best expresso powder! Dissolves quickly into any liquid or batter. I add it to brownies, cakes, ice cream, etc. Really enhances chocolate flavor in any recipe.

Mixed Feelings ... but
Okay, I'll admit that I'm NOT a coffee drinker. However, I ordered this because I've been ill and wondered if a teaspoon of this in my hot chocolate would give me a kick of energy. Based on the reviews, I chose the King Arthur brand. Based on the following is why I will continue to purchase it:- Wonderful flavor. A teaspoon added to my hot chocolate does not overwhelm the flavor. It mixes easily and is not bitter. Smells really good too.- It does seem to give me a kick of energy ... and I'll take all I can get right now.- Once in a Blue Moon I will drink a cup of coffee when I'm sick. Next time I do so I will definitely add some of the espresso powder to add more depth of flavor.- I eat mostly organic food. It does bother me that this may contain Genetically Modified Additives, When it came time to reorder, I decided to go with a brand that stated it was "Non-GMO". Unfortunately, I wasn't happy with this other brand because it tasted bitter. Still not available I ordered an espresso coffee my father used to drink. Alas, it is better than the Non-GMO version, but doesn't satisfy me like the King Arthur brand. So, I figure since I'm nearly 70 now ... "what the heck!" I can allow myself one Non-GMO item. However, I wish King Arthur would get on-board with this health concern. However, they may not address this issue on their label because it is processed in a facility that also processes soy ... which is highly genetically modified. Unless fermented (Miso Soup, Soy Sauce, etc.) no one should be eating soy. It causes many health problems and takes the masculinity out of a man. Anyway, trying to purchase food without soy is like trying to purchase something not made in China.I definitely think the King Arthur Espresso Powder definitely deserves all the positive ratings. You can add me to the list! I am purchasing more before they are sold out again. I plan to bake some brownies soon and will definitely be adding this espresso powder. Smoothies are next!
