Q: Is this compatible with Macs?

This is for a desktop intrernal to get extra USB 2 connectors for the motherboard. My MB is one of the latest and has mostly USB 3.2 connectors and only 1 USB 2 connector on the MB and I needed 2, so this was the perfect solution.

Q: Are additional drivers needed for this hardware as it’s plugged in and doing nothing?

No software of any kind is required for this to function. If by doing "doing nothing", you mean that none of the USB headers are being reading any connected USB devices, I would suggest making sure the USB device is functional and everything is connected properly. If there's no problems with anything being connected, I would suggest connecting the USB front header directly to the USB port on the board and then testing it. Give windows about at least 30 seconds to detect the insertion of a USB device. If nothing is coming up, then the USB header on your board is dead, but if a straight plug in of the USB front header is functioning, whereas this splitter doesn't work, then it's most likely faulty.
